Resturant Review

Hola
Mexican Cantina, Burlingame CA

Last night I went to Hola in downtown Burlingame. This restaurant is known for its nightlife, its great food, and extensive bar. It was a beautiful summer day, and a nice margarita and some good food felt like just the right thing. For a non-peak night the place was pretty full and noisy. Don't expect to have intimate conversations here. My friend had the Carnitas Pixatla while I had the Pollo en Mole ( both $14.95). We also ordered the Hola! Margarita and the Mexican Mojito- a Mojito made with tequila. The carnitas were large cubes of pork , which seemed dry on the outside but had a juicy center, overall a tasty dish. The Pollo en Mole had a great Mole sauce- almost too rich. Sadly, the chicken was overdone and a little tough, accompanied by side dishes of rice and beans, which were slightly too salty. On the beverage side, the Mexican Mojito was refreshing and had a bit of a bite. The Hola! Margarita tasted about the same as every other "insert restaurant name here " Margarita. The service was ordinary - nothing to write on this blog about. Overall I expected a little more from Hola considering the hype, but I would give it another try.

Spider Man 3: revenge of the schmaltz, return of Eddie the Echo

A self confessed comic book nerd's take on the third installment:

Spider Man One? Loved it. Spider Man 2? Double loved it! SpiderMan 3? About as interesting as dead skin ( which can be interesting, if your into that sort of thing, but not me... well sometimes)

Last Sunday was a beautiful day, the weather was perfect, where was I? Sitting in the darkened theatre looking forward to what I expected to be a great adventure. About halfway through the movie, I found myself wondering, " when is this going to be over?'
This third installment pits the web head vs the Sandman, Venom ,and there's a new Green Goblin in town, Peter's best friend, Harry. Tobey Maguire as Spidey seemed like he was acting while at the same time thinking about how he can translate this part into a guest appearance on "Extras". Maybe he was just thinking "what would Peter Parker do?" instead of simply being Peter Parker. When he was "dark peter" possessed by the alien costume thing, he changed his hairstyle so we could all figure out he was not his normal self. I figured out he was not his normal self without the bad hairstyle - the way he was walking down the street like "edie the echo" in those burger commercials, pointing at the ladies – "how ya doin'? how ya doin'?" and being all "evil' and stuff. While the special effects were amazing, I think the biggest problem with this movie was the directing. How many different Rami family members have to be in the movie? Certain scenes like- the "dark peter" segment and the J.J. Jameson office segments and the Aunt May segments ( which I liked in the previous films) went on way too long. There were shots in the film that were exact copies of shots from Ramis' "Evil Dead" series. I love Sam Rami but I think he went a little too far with the in jokes and such to the detriment of the movie. I give Spider Man 3 a rousing "meh!"
